  • What information do I need to switch to a better deal?

    Most people can switch using just their postcode and a few basic details, most of which can be found on your energy bill – such as how much you spend or the amount of energy you use. If you don’t have this information to hand you can still switch using our usage estimator. Or give us a call on 0800 634 5185 and we will do our best to help you.

  • Will I be charged for using this service?

    No, we do not charge you for switching with us, and there are no hidden surcharges. We show you the best available rates from all suppliers in your area. You may then choose the one that suits you. Switching your provider does not cost anything, and it will save you money.

  • Will my electricity or gas supply be interrupted?

    No, there will be no interruption whatsoever and your provider will use your existing wires and pipes. 

  • How are the service ratings calculated?

    Our service ratings provide an easy reference to the level of service a supplier provides. The easy-to-understand star system is represented as follows:

    1 Star - Poor

    2 Stars - Below Average

    3 Stars - Average

    4 Stars - Good

    5 Stars - Very Good

    The ratings are calculated from complaint levels received by Consumer Focus, the independent market watchdog. The ratings also take into account call centre hours and availability of suppliers’ internet services and special offers. Deductions are made if the energy regulator OFGEM has imposed recent fines.

  • Will I need to contact my old supplier to switch to a new provider?

    No, your old supplier will be contacted by your new supplier, who will organise the switching process on your behalf. You should provide your new supplier with a final meter reading however, so they can organise a final bill and close your account with your old provider.

  • I would like to pay by Direct Debit, will I need my bank details?

    In some instances you may request a paper Direct Debit form which will be sent by your new supplier. You can then fill the form out with your bank details, and return it to them. However, we do recommend that you complete your Direct Debit forms online as it is less time-consuming and the information is received and stored securely.

  • How does this service make money if it is free?

    We receive a small commission from the energy suppliers when we find them a new customer. energyhelpline, who power our energy comparison service, are governed and accredited by Consumer Focus’ code of conduct for price comparison websites. We will show you every supplier, regardless of our relationship with them, and we will show you the cheapest deal for available for you.

  • How can I save as much money as possible?

    It’s really simple and easy to use; find out what you are currently paying for gas and electricity and which tariff you are on with your current provider. Enter your details into the calculator and search. The cheapest supplier available to you will be at the top of the results table that appears.

  • I don’t know who my current supplier is, is there a way I can find out?

    The first place to check is any recent bill – your suppliers name will most likely be printed at the top. If you cannot locate a bill, you can contact the Meter Point Number Helpline on 0870 608 1524. If you need to find out your current electricity supplier, try contacting your landlord or letting agent or the regional electricity supplier eg. London Electricity. You will be able to find their phone number in the phone book, on the internet, or from directory enquiries.

  • If I don’t know my exact recent energy usage will I still be able to use your calculator?

    Yes you can. We have provided a simple usage estimator which provides a rough estimate based on the size of your property. Generally smaller flats will be lower energy users, larger flats and houses will be medium users, and large houses will be high users. Or if you prefer to go into greater detail, our detailed usage estimator allows you to enter more specific details regarding usage, such as how many bedrooms you have, the number of occupants in your home, and the type of energy you use to cook.

  • Who are Asda Energy Compare and Save?

    Asda Energy Compare & Save is provided by energyhelpline. energyhelpline.com is a free and impartial independent price comparison service. Fully accredited by Consumer Focus, energyhelpline.com compare all suppliers in the UK to help you find the cheapest energy deal.

  • How does the switching process work?
    1. Compare all of the suppliers and plans using Asda Energy Compare and Save
    2. Select the best value deal for you and complete the switching details required. This takes around 7 minutes~.
    3. We will send you an email to confirm the switch.
    4. Your details are sent on to your new supplier.
    5. Your new supplier will contact you to confirm the date the switch will take place. You will need to take a meter reading on this day to ensure you are not billed for the same energy twice.
    6. It will take around four to six weeks to complete the switch. Your new supplier will aim to switch you in the shortest time possible.
  • What can I do to make my bills cheaper?

    Energy companies offer lots of different tariffs and it can be hard to know which will be the cheapest plan for you, however you will find the cheapest plans on the market will be:

    • Dual fuel - you get both gas and electricity from one supplier.
    • Direct Debit - most suppliers offer discounts if you pay by Direct Debit rather than cash or cheque.
    • Online plans - this means you that you sign up to and manage the plan online.
  • What if I'm moving house?

    Find out who the current supplier is at your new property. If you are not sure you can find out who your gas supplier is by calling the Meter Number Helpline on 0870 608 1524. Then call your current supplier and ask them to register you as the new occupier of the property. Ask them the name of the plan you're on at the same time.

  • How long does it take to switch online?

    Switching online can take as little as 7 minutes~ and it's simple and easy to do. If you have any problems then you can call us on 0800 634 5185.

  • When will I receive my Gift Card?

    If you made a switch before 22nd October 2012 you may have been eligible to receive an ASDA gift card.  Your switch will need to go live with your new supplier before we can process your Gift Card. This is usually 50 days after your switch has been completed with your new provider

  • How long do I have to switch to a new tariff?

    Energy suppliers change their tariffs on a regular basis so we cannot guarantee how long a tariff will be available.

  • How much will my new tariff cost each month if I'm a Direct Debit customer?

    Your new provider will arrange your new Direct Debit. As an estimate you can work out the average monthly cost of your energy by dividing the yearly cost by 12 but your actual Direct Debit amount may be higher or lower.
