  • What is Renters Insurance?

    It's a type of contents insurance policy specifically for people who are living in rented accommodation.

  • How does Renters Insurance differ from contents insurance?

    It’s designed specifically for people who are living in rented accommodation and has more suitable sums insured and modules so you choose what you cover and how much you pay.

  • Do I need to provide proof that I am living in rented accommodation?

    No.

  • Can I flex my cover up and down during my policy?

    Yes, simply call our friendly customer service team who will be happy to help.

  • Will I be charged to change my address?

    No. There is no charge to change your address but you will need to re-quote to make sure you are still fully protected.

  • How do I make a claim?

    Simply call 0330 332 2637 and a claims handler will take you through the next steps.

  • When are your claims lines open?

    8am-7pm Monday to Friday (except bank holidays) and 9am-5pm Saturday. Call 0330 332 2637.

  • How do I check the progression of my claim?

    We will keep you up to date with the progression of your claim but if you would like further updates just give us a call on 0330 332 2637. 8am-7pm Monday to Friday (except bank holidays) and 9am-5pm Saturday.

  • I current have Contents insurance, but I am about to move into rented accommodation. Do I need both policies?

    No, you only need one policy.

  • Can I switch to Asda Renters Insurance from another provider?

    Yes, simply contact us for a quote and don’t forget to cancel the insurance with your previous insurer.

    • Once we’ve set up your policy we’ll send you all your new documents, we’ll even give you a quick welcome call to ensure you’re happy with the cover and answer any queries.
  • How long is my quote valid for?

    90 days.

  • Can I name multiple people on the one policy?

    Yes, you can add a joint policy holder at any point.

  • Can I add or remove a person from my policy?

    Yes, simply call our customer service team and make sure both the policy holder and the person you want to add or remove is present.

  • I'm an existing customer - How do I find out what level of cover I have?

    Your schedule will confirm what level of cover you have. If you have misplaced this document give our friendly customer service team a call and they can send you a new copy.

  • What does new for old mean?

    If your item cannot be repaired, new for old cover means that Asda Renters Insurance will replace the item you're claiming for with a brand new one of the same make and specification. This applies to all contents claims apart from when you're claiming for clothing or household linen where we make a deduction for wear and tear.

  • I have lost a copy of my policy - can I request a replacement?

    Yes, simply call our friendly customer service team on 0330 332 2637 8am-7pm Monday to Friday (except bank holidays) and 9am-5pm Saturday.

  • Can I get instant cover?

    Yes. You can get a quote online or via the phone, and if you choose to purchase the policy you are instantly covered.

  • I have changed my mind - can I cancel my policy?

    Once you receive the policy you have 14 days to make sure the cover is exactly what you need, if you wish to cancel the policy during the first 14 days you will receive a full refund of your premium as long as no claim has been made. Call us on 0330 332 2637 8am-7pm Monday to Friday (except bank holidays) and 9am-5pm Saturday.

  • I run my own business at home - can I get cover for my office contents?

    Asda Renters Insurance doesn't cover a property where it is used for any trade, professional or business purposes other than clerical work undertaken by your family.

  • Am I covered for items away from home?

    Yes. Technology and Entertainment cover, Personal Items and Pedal Cycle cover all provide cover away from home (including abroad) for up to 60 days in each insurance period.

  • I will only be renting for 6 months - can I still get a policy?

    Our policies renew on an annual basis but can be cancelled before the renewal date. Your refund amount for premiums already paid will be calculated based on the period of time you have been insured.

  • Can I get a short term policy?

    Our policies renew on an annual basis but can be cancelled before the renewal date.

  • How much notice do I have to give if I am moving home?

    To make sure you're fully covered, you should let us know as soon as possible so that we may provide you with a quote for your new property.

  • If I buy a new item that I need to insure, how do I amend my policy? Will I be charged for this?

    We won't charge you to make any amends to your policy simply call our friendly customer services team on 0330 332 2637, they will be able to add the new items to the policy and will confirm if it will increase your premium.

  • If I sell an item that'ts covererd under my policy, how do I amend it and will I be charged for this?

    Simply call our friendly customer services team on 0800 479 8711, they will be able to remove the items from the policy and will confirm if it will decrease your premium.

  • How do I renew my policy?

    Full details of your renewal will be sent to you 21 days before the end of your policy. If you would like to discuss your renewal, please call us on 0330 332 2637.

  • Who underwrites Asda Renters Insurance?

    Asda Renters Insurance is underwrtten by RSA.

  • Is this product suitable for students living in halls of residence?

    Yes.

  • Is accidental damage included?
