As the summer holiday season kicks off and the annual sun lounger stampede commences, new research from Asda Money reveals the lengths British holidaymakers will go to secure a coveted sun lounger as it launches the first-ever exercise routine designed to help Brits bag a bed this summer.

With nearly a third (30%) of Brits having missed out on securing a sun lounger because they didn’t sprint for a bed in time and one in five (20%) completely changed their plans for the day after failing to nab a sun lounger, Brits’ dedication to securing a sun lounger is nothing short of legendary. Over a quarter (25%) have argued with other holidaymakers over a sun lounger, with a shocking 70% saying their sun lounger disputes spilt over into different parts of the holiday, over 64% of Brits research sun lounger availability at holiday destinations before booking, and 37% have chosen hotels specifically for their sun lounger policies.

With early morning poolside scenes that are often reminiscent of a sports event, in a vow to bagsy a bed and avoid any future mishap, one in three (39%) say they will exercise more before their holiday, 36% vow to get stronger, and 31% plan to be more agile for future sun lounger battles. However, some have more questionable means of winning the reservation race, with nearly one in five (19%) saying they’d consider paying a staff member to secure a bed for them, and one in six (17%) saying they’d send a child or older person to get the sympathy vote.
