COVID-19 - In light of the impact that coronavirus is having globally, we’ve made some changes to how we assist our breakdown customers. If you need to make a claim, and you or somebody in your vehicle is self-isolating or showing symptoms of coronavirus, please tell us when you call. We’ll let our recovery team know, so they can handle your breakdown in the best way possible and take measures to keep themselves safe. We’ll continue to offer breakdown recovery in Europe wherever possible. However, government actions such as border closures may affect our service. You can continue to contact us in the normal way if you need to make a claim. Thank you for your understanding during these exceptional circumstances.

Our Cover Types

  1. Roadside Cover

    Cover for anywhere in the UK to a local garage

    From £27 a year, you can make up to six call-outs a year, if you’re more than a quarter of a mile from home. Maximum vehicle age for new cover is 10 years old.

    Cover UK wide to anywhere in the UK

    From £78 a year, there are no age limits on covered cars and you can benefit from home assist. Hire cars or alternative transport also included as standard.

What is covered by Asda Breakdown Cover?

All the different tiers of Asda Money Breakdown Cover offer assistance over a 1⁄4 mile away to ensure we can get you going no matter where you are. You also get local recovery up to 10 miles away from wherever you break down, so you can get your car back home or to the nearest garage if the problem can’t be fixed at the roadside. On average, our team fixes 4 out of 5 vehicles at the roadside* and have a 44 minute average response time^.

We offer three types of breakdown cover for your vehicle, all of which are provided by our partners LV=, ranging from standard roadside coverage up to assistance anywhere in Europe.

Why do I need breakdown cover?

From a puncture to engine troubles, you never know when something might go wrong on a long journey. By having Breakdown Cover with Asda, you know you can rely on roadside recovery anywhere in the UK.

If you’re not insured for breakdown cover then you can still make a call out to one of the many companies that offer breakdown assistance, but you will have to pay whatever fees they charge for non-members which can be very expensive compared to having your own breakdown cover.

What types of Breakdown Cover do we offer?

Roadside Cover

Roadside Cover lets you make up to six call-outs a year, so you’ll be covered anywhere in the UK if you’re at least a quarter of a mile from home. The maximum vehicle age for new Roadside Cover policies is 10 years old.


UK Breakdown Cover

UK Breakdown Cover doesn’t have any vehicle age limits, meaning we can provide assistance to almost any vehicle, and includes Home Assist to get you going if your car won’t start and recovery to a local garage if needed. We’ll even provide a hire car or alternative transport if your car throws a spanner in the works!


European Breakdown Cover

European Breakdown Cover is perfect if you think you’ll be going continental in the next 12 months and still want all the benefits of our UK Breakdown Cover like alternative transport if necessary and Home Assist.

What do I need to do if i breakdown?

First of all, be safe. Get out of your vehicle as safely as possible and switch your hazard lights on. Once you’re in a safe place, please call our 24 hour helpline on 0800 202 8100 and they will be able to talk you through the next steps. If you’re calling from Europe, it’s +44 1689 891 063.  

How long will I have to wait if I breakdown?

We aim to attend every breakdown within an hour, although we currently have a 44 minute average response time^. Britannia Rescue will let you know if the breakdown professional is delayed.

Do you charge for callouts and are there any limits to the number of callouts in a year?

There are no charges for callouts. With Roadside Cover there is a limit of 6 callouts a year.  But there are no limits on Asda UK Breakdown Cover and Asda European Breakdown Cover.

Am I covered if I'm driving another vehicle?

Cover is for the insured vehicle only. You can take out personal cover for just £28 a year extra for Roadside Cover and £47 a year for UK Breakdown and European Breakdown Cover.  Personal Cover only applies in the UK.
