Going travelling with a partner can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience, packed with new adventures and experiences. As with any sort of trip away, you’ll need to make sure you have the proper protection for your trip.

If you are planning on going away as a couple, you can take advantage of joint travel insurance, also known as couples travel insurance policies or couples travel cover, allowing you to be insured together and save some money.

What does couple mean in travel insurance?

Couples travel insurance relates to two adults who are over the age of 18 who are registered as living at the same address and are in a relationship. This can mean a married couple or simply a couple in a relationship who are co-habiting together.

Typically, you can expect standard couples travel insurance to include everything you’d find in a standard travel insurance policy, including:

  • Medical cover
  • Cover for personal belongings
  • Cancellation cover
  • Travel delay/disruption cover

We also include cover for over 50 different sports and activities as standard, as well as optional cover for winter sports or hazardous activities.

Can you travel separately on couple travel insurance?

With a single trip policy, you both need to be travelling together in order to be covered. However, if you choose annual couples travel insurance, both adults named on the policy can travel indepenently. This can be useful if you're going away on a regular basis but can’t always guarantee that you can go together.

Is medical cover included with couple’s travel insurance?

Just like with a standard travel policy, we’ll take any pre-existing conditions into consideration provided you tell us at the time of organising your cover.

There may be a small extra charge in order to cover some conditions, but if something were to happen you need not worry – we’ll have your back.

If you’re a couple looking to travel together then be sure to book your insurance at the same time as your trip to make the most of your cover. Why not get a quote with us and see how much you could save by getting a joint travel insurance policy?

Is it cheaper to get travel insurance as a couple?

If you’re travelling with your partner or spouse, it may be cheaper to get one policy to cover both of you for your holiday. Couples travel insurance generally covers the same things as standard individual travel insurance, such as medical cover, cancellation cover, and protection for personal belongings. You don’t have to be married to get travel insurance for couples either – just living at the same address and in a relationship.
