Benefits of an annual travel insurance policy
Taking out annual multi-trip travel insurance has many benefits, especially if you like to travel often, such as:
- More cost-effective compared to buying multiple single-trip insurance policies for every holiday you have.
- Takes out the hassle of buying a new policy every time you wish to travel – with yearly travel insurance, you can book a holiday and go knowing that you are covered.
- Annual travel insurance covers you for any UK based holidays or staycations you may take.
- You don’t have to notify your insurer every time you plan on going away – you’re already covered.
What does annual travel insurance typically cover?
When it comes to annual multi-trip travel insurance policies, most will include cover for the following:
Medical expenses – one year travel insurance policies will cover the cost of healthcare and emergency treatment when on holiday.
Cancellation and delays – your insurance will cover you if you have to cancel your trip or if there are delays or issues with your flights.
Lost luggage – if you lose your luggage, you may be reimbursed for the essential items you would need for your holiday.
Stolen or lost belongings – if you lose your personal belongings or they are stolen you may be covered for this as long as they are part of the personal possessions specified in your policy documents.
Kids covered for free – if you take out an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy with Asda Money, up to three kids will be covered for free. Simply add them by naming them on the policy. They’re even covered if they go on holiday with another adult, like a family member or friend.
Each provider is different though, so always check the finer details before taking out a policy.
What’s not covered by annual travel insurance?
Like any travel insurance policy, annual travel insurance in the UK often comes with limitations and exclusions, such as:
Changing your mind – if you cancel the holiday yourself because you no longer want to go, this is often referred to as a “disinclination to travel” and typically won’t be covered by your insurance.
Travelling against government advice – if you ignore government travel advice or travel to countries deemed as “dangerous”, your insurance will not cover you.
Natural disasters – many insurers will not cover any damage or complications that occur due to natural disasters unless you take out natural disaster optional upgrade protection.
Drugs and alcohol – if you suffer any injuries due to being under the influence of alcohol and drugs, you will not be covered for this.
Committing an offence - going against local laws in the country you have travelled to will not be covered by your insurance.
Refusing to get vaccinated – you won’t be covered by your insurance if you are not vaccinated against preventable tropical diseases.
Taking part in extreme sports – if you choose to partake in extreme sports or dangerous activities that aren’t covered in your policy, you won’t be protected.
Optional extra cover with Asda annual travel insurance
Add optional cover to your Asda annual travel insurance policy including:
- Winter sports: Make sure you’re covered for hitting the slopes on your next skiing holiday.
- Golf: Cover for your all-important golf clubs and for any accidents on the course.
- Business: Protect your essential business belongings like smartphones and laptops, as well as for delays that cause problems for your business.
- Cruise cover: Cover to give you essential protection if you go on a cruise as one of your annual holidays.
- Valuables extension: Extend your insurance cover to include high-value possessions including jewellery.
- Natural disaster: Ensuring you’re covering for a delayed departure or cancelling your trip in the event of a natural disaster.
- Hazardous activities: Make sure you’re protected for any other extreme sports you plan to do on your holidays, like skydiving or bungee jumping.
How much does annual travel insurance cost?
How much you pay for your annual travel insurance will be determined by several factors, such as:
- Medical history – if you have any pre-existing health conditions, your insurer is likely to increase your premium as there’s a higher chance of you making a claim.
- Your age – travel insurance premiums increase as you get older as you are more likely to need cover for medical expenses.
- Level of cover – the higher the level of cover, the more expensive it is likely to be. Always make sure you go for the level of coverage that suits your needs to avoid paying more for things that you won’t need.
Through Asda Money, quotes for annual travel insurance can start from Quotes from £148.68*

How to get cheaper travel insurance
There are several different things you can do to get cheaper travel insurance, including:
Compare quotes from different providers: By comparing quotes, you can look at the costs offered by different providers and see how they stack up. You’ll get a quote for annual multi-trip travel insurance through Asda Money in minutes.
Choose the right policy: If you’re only travelling to countries in Europe in the next 12 months, select a policy that covers Europe only.
Check you’re not already covered: You might already have travel insurance with your bank account for example. Check first, as you don’t want to unnecessarily pay for the same cover twice.
Select the right excess: The excess is how much you pay in the event of a claim. Opting for a higher excess usually means lower premiums. Just make sure you choose one you can afford if you need to claim.
Pick the right cover level: You don’t need things like extreme sports cover if you’re not doing anything extreme or high-value cover if you’re not taking anything expensive with you. Only insuring yourself for the cover you need should help you cut costs.

Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance FAQs
- What is annual multi trip travel insurance?
-
Annual multi-trip travel insurance gives you cover for multiple holidays over a 12-month period, taking the hassle out of buying insurance for every trip individually. This can also make it more cost-effective if you’re planning on travelling a lot over a year.
- How does multi trip travel insurance work?
-
Multi-trip travel insurance, or annual travel insurance as it’s also known, is designed to give holiday-goers cover for any trips they take over the course of 12 months. This allows them to take out one policy for the year rather than separate policies for each individual trip.
- Why is annual multi trip travel insurance cheaper than single?
-
The reason annual or yearly travel insurance can be cheaper than single trip cover is because it groups all your trips under one policy. So, if you’re taking more than one holiday over the course of the year, then they’ll all be covered by your annual policy.
- When should I buy annual travel insurance?
-
Most people purchase travel insurance as soon as they book their trip to help protect them against cancellations.
However, if you’ve got dates planned for multiple trips throughout the year then you may want to maximise your cover and take out your policy strategically. This means taking it out slightly closer to the time of your first trip to maximise your coverage for the next 12 months.
- Can I get travel insurance for next year?
-
Depending on when you take out your annual travel insurance policy, it can be valid into next year for a certain period of time. For instance, if you took out an annual travel policy on September 1st this year, it would be valid until August 31st next year. That means if you have trips planned for the following year that fall between those dates, you’ll already be covered by your existing annual travel insurance.
- What does multi trip travel insurance cover?
-
The cover you get from a multi-trip insurance policy will depend on the level of cover you choose. With Asda Money, that’s Value, Premium, and Superior. In general, you can expect multi-trip travel insurance to cover things like medical expenses if you get ill or injured on holiday, lost or damaged luggage, and protection for personal valuables.
- Should I buy an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy or single trip cover?
-
If you’re travelling more than once, consider buying annual multi-trip travel insurance over single trip cover. With an annual multi-trip policy, you’ll be covered for each trip you make in 12 months. If you choose a single policy, you’ll need to buy a new policy each time.
- Do I need travel insurance if I have a European or Global Health Insurance Card?
-
Even if you have a European or Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC), it’s still important to have travel insurance in place too. With a GHIC, you’re entitled to state-provided healthcare when visiting the EU, but it won’t cover all medical costs. Plus, you won’t get cover for repatriation back to the UK on medical grounds.
- Does annual travel insurance cover Covid-19?
-
Yes, annual multi-trip travel insurance with Asda Money covers Covid-19. It will cover you in case Covid-19 impacts your travel plans.
- Does annual travel insurance cover UK holidays?
-
Yes, if you have an annual multi-trip travel insurance with Asda, this covers you for any trips you take in the UK too.
- Does Asda’s annual travel insurance cover all countries?
-

- UK
- UK and Europe
- Worldwide, including the USA, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean
- Worldwide, excluding the USA, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean
- How many times can I travel on an annual travel insurance policy?
-
You can travel as many times as you like throughout the year on an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy. Just remember that with Asda Annual Travel Insurance, no single trip can last longer than 31 days if you have Value cover, 45 days if you have Premium cover, and 55 days if you have Superior cover.
- Does travel insurance cover pre-existing medical conditions?
-
You can get travel insurance even if you have pre-existing medical conditions, but you will need to declare these when you get a quote to ensure you’re covered for your condition before you buy the policy.
- Is there an age limit for Asda Travel Insurance?
