Should I buy Romanian leu now or wait?
Just like arranging your travel insurance, it’s sensible to exchange British pounds to Romanian leu before you travel.
Organising your foreign currency before you leave home gives you one less thing to think about. You won’t have to spend precious time searching for an exchange bureau in Romania. Instead, you can focus on simply enjoying your trip.
If you exchange pounds for Romanian leu when you’re there, you may get a worse exchange rate. Exchange rates in airports, hotels and around tourist locations are usually poor.
You can often withdraw Romanian leu directly from ATMs in Romania using your British bank cards, and many businesses will accept your cards for cashless payments. However, you may be charged additional fees.
Having Romanian leu cash in your pocket avoids these costs and means you won’t have to worry about whether your cards will be accepted.
