What is multi-car insurance?
Multi-car insurance is where one policy covers more than one car, rather than having a separate insurance policy for each vehicle. Some providers can offer a discount if you insure multiple cars with them on the same policy, usually up to a limit of five vehicles.
Why choose multi-car insurance?
Multi-car insurance can be a good option for households with two or more cars, such as a family where everyone drives, a couple with a car each, or if you own several cars.
Having one policy and one insurer means everything is neatly in one place, so you won’t have to remember multiple renewal dates or keep track of lots of different paperwork.
Insurance providers are also happy for you to give them your business, so many will offer discounts or good deals if you add more cars to an existing policy.
Can I save money with multi-car insurance?
You’ll need to do a bit of research to find out if a multi-car policy will work out cheaper for your household, comparing quotes for individual policies against adding your car to a multi-car insurance policy.
Whether or not one works out cheaper often comes down to the make and type of car and what insurance group it falls into. The age of any registered drivers also has a big impact, as well as any claims they’ve previously made or accidents they’ve been involved in.
However, many insurers will offer discounts as you add more cars to their multi-car policy, rewarding your loyalty.
What about my no claims bonus?
For most multi-car insurance policies, one main driver making a claim shouldn’t affect the no-claims bonuses of the other drivers on the policy. However, if a named driver makes a claim, that could affect the no-claims discount of the main driver on that car.
